63rd WMC Military Pentathlon - Wiener Neustadt (AUT) - Update - Day 4

 

 

WIENER NEUSTADT (AUT) – Yesterday, August 11th, the athletes competed in two events at the 63rd WMC Military Pentathlon in Wiener Neustadt (AUT): the obstacle swimming event and the throwing event. The obstacle swimming consist in a 50m race with 4 different obstacles while the throwing contest is divided in two parts successively performed by each competitors: the precision throwing (for the men, weight of the projectile: 575g - 16 attempts – 4 distances: 20m, 25m, 30m and 35m; for the women, weight of the projectile – 375g – 16 attempts - 4 distances: 15m, 20m, 25m and 30m) and the far distance throwing (the longest distance achieved in 3 attempts).

 

 

WO Iulia Naumova won the first event of the day, the women individual obstacle swimming. She finished the race in 28,5 seconds (1156,0 points) with a 0,2 seconds lead on her two Russian teammates, WO Evgenia Aksenova and Lt. Liudmila Egorova (RUS), who completed the Russian success (28,7 seconds – 1151,2 points). For the detailed results of the women individual obstacle swimming event, click here.

In the individual women throwing event, the Pvt. Hyang Sim Ko (PRK) realized the best performance to take the gold medal (1067,2 points) while Pvt. Sara Hjalager (DEN) finished on the second step of the podium (1037,2 points) and Pvt. Yong Mi Choe (PRK) took the third place (1033,2 points). After 4 events out of 5, WO Iulia Naumova (RUS) is leading the provisional ranking (4327,1 points) with a 8,7 points lead on Cpl. Qian Wu (CHN – 4318,4 points) and Pvt. Sara Hjalager (DEN) is closing the podium with 4306,1 points. For the detailed provisional individual women ranking, click here.

In the team women competition, Russia (WO Naumova, Lt. Egorova, WO Aksenova and Sgt. Konokpo) won the obstacle swimming competition with 3458,8 points. Denmark finished second (3369,8 points) and China took the third place with 3343,2 points. The throwing event was won by Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (Pvt. Ko, Pvt. Choe, Capt. Ryu, Pvt. Maeng) with 3121,6 points.

 

 

China took the second place (3005,6 points) and Russia finished on the third step of the podium (2963,2 points). After 4 events, China is now leading the provisional team women ranking with 12856,4 points, ahead of Russia (12803,6 points) and Denmark (12788,2 points).

In the men individual obstacle swimming competition, Zgf. Markus Weber (AUT – 24,7 seconds) took the first place with a 0,1 second lead on Kpl. Philipp Eibl (AUT - 24,8 seconds). SSgt. Andrej Sonnenberg (GER) and Cpt. André Torres are completing the podium as they finished the race at the same time (25,0 second). 2Lt. Sergei Alpatov won the individual men throwing event with 1088,0 points. 1.Lt. Henadij Shkuruk (BLR) took the second place of the podium (1085,6 points) while Cabo Daniel Mendoza (COL) finished at the third place with 1079,6 points. After 4 events out of 5, Cpt. Tiago Cabral (BRA – 4451,5 points) is now leading the individual men provisional ranking with a 2,9 points lead on his teammate Lt. Douglas Castro (4448,6 points). On the third step of this provisional podium, Zgf. Markus Weber (AUT) who is only 6 points away from the gold medal. For the detailed provisional individual men ranking, click here.

 

 

Austria (Zgf. Weber, Kpl. Eibl, Wm. Depil, Zgf. Hofer and Wm. Faiman) won the team men obstacle swimming event with 4605,2 points. Brazil (4585,6 points) took the second place and Belarus finished third (4463,4 points). In the team men throwing event, Russia (2.Lt. Alpatov, WO Svechnikov, Cpt. Blinov, Lt. Svechnikov and Cpt. Botcman – 4266,0 points) won the gold medal preceded by China (4241,6 points) and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (4228,0 points). After 4 events, Brazil is leading the team men competition with 17508,6 points. China (17298,0 points) is currently ranked second and Austria third (17254,4 points).

The CISM family also wanted to thank Mr. Franz Raudner the CISM Military Pentathlon CSC Secretary for all his work during the 20 last years. During the CSC meeting, Mr. Raudner was awarded the title of Knight of the CISM for his excellent work!

 

 

Today, August 12th, the athletes will face the cross-country event (8000 meters for the men and 4000 meters for the women).
