WIENER NEUSTADT (AUT) – The 63rd World Military Pentathlon Championship (official website) started yesterday in Wiener Neustadt (AUT) with the preliminary meeting, the trainings and the official Opening Ceremony. Athletes from 28 countries will compete in the Therenesianian Military Academy venues and we can also note the presence of three Observers Nations: Ukraine, Myanmar and Indonesia.
The official Opening Ceremony took place yesterday on the main square of Wiener Neustadt in the presence of the CISM OCR, Brig-Gen Barancheshmesh, the Austrian Chief of Delegation to CISM and former CISM BoD Member, Brig-Gen Gerhard Herke, several high dignitaries and local authorities. The event was followed by a show of the Austrian militaries. After the Opening Ceremony, a reception was given by the Wiener Neustadt Mayor Klaus Schneeberger. The first day ended with the athletes’ parade, the hosting of the CISM flag and Austrian flag, the Austrian National Anthem performed by special guest Tatiana Anderson, the CISM anthem and in the evening, a performance of folk dance by The Lady Anika-Plattler.
It’s now time to start the competitions.
From Tuesday, August 9th to Saturday, August 13th, the athletes will have to face 6 events: shooting (August 9), obstacle run (August 10), obstacle swimming and throwing (August 11), cross-country (August 12) and obstacle relay (August 13).
