GUINEA - The Military Football team of the Armed Forces of Guinea is a regular of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) competitions.
The Guinean Armed Forces team participated in its first CISM competition in 1989 in Naples (ITA), followed by 1991 in Arnhem (NED), 1997 in Tehran (IRI), 1999 in Zagreb (CRO) for the 2nd Military World Games, 2001 in Cairo (EGY), 2003 in Catania (ITA) for the 3rd Military World Games, 2007 in Hyderabad (IND) for the 4th Military World Games and 2015 in Mungyeong (KOR) for the 6th Military World Games. In 2017, Guinea will participate to its 9th CISM football tournament in Muscat (OMA).
In addition to the CISM competitions, the team participated in the qualifying competitions in Africa (6 of 8); the team was vice champion in 1998 at home in Labé (Guinea) after defeating Egypt during the 3rd edition. In 2001 Yamoussoukro (CIV), Guinea faced the host country in final and became African Champion while in 2006, Guinea won the bronze medal against Algeria in Yaoundé (CMR)
The team currently plays in the national championship in the First League national and participates in the Guinean national Cup. The team also took part in the championships in Africa following the results achieved nationally and even won a trophy in 1988 in West Africa (the West African Football Cup (WAFU)).
The team exists since 1961 on behalf of Sofa (warriors) and change its name into Sports Association of the Armed Forces of Guinea in 1984 until now.
