2nd World Football Cup 2017 - Presentation: Team Algeria

ALGERIA - The Algerian military football team is the current military World Champion.

The players that make up the Algerian national military football team include both professional members of the armed forces and those carrying out their military service. The team represents Algeria and its Armed Forces during international military football competitions.

The Algerian national military football team's first title dates back to 1969 in Athens, when it became World Military Football Vice-Champion during the 24th CISM World Military Football Championship, after losing to Greece in the final.

After an absence from the international military sports stage that lasted several years, the national Algerian military football team returned to world competitions in 2004 for the African Military Football Cup held in 2004 in Bamako (Mali). This competition formed part of the preliminary rounds organized by continent that were also qualifiers for the 41st CISM World Military Football Championship.

Since then, Algeria has participated in every African Military Football Cup (also known as the Compaoré Trophy and as CAMFOOT in French-speaking countries); on each occasion Algeria has qualified for the following CISM World Military Football Championship.

At world level, Algeria was successful once again in June 2005, coming 2nd in the 41st World Military Football Championship in Warendorf (Germany).

But Algeria's hour of glory dawned in July 2011 when, for the first time in its history, it became World Military Football Champion at the 5th CISM Military World Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), beating Egypt 1-0 in the final.

This triumph marked the beginning of an era of success for the Algerian military squad that won a new Military World Cup title in October 2015, beating Oman 2-0 at the 6th CISM Military World Games in South Korea.

A truly epic win, this victory meant that Algeria proudly retained its Military World Football Championship title.

However, they were somewhat less successful during the 1st CISM World Military Football Cup held in July 2013 in Baku (Azerbaijan). This time Algeria was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Iraq, who then went on to win the competition.

The High Command of the Algerian National Popular Army has ensured that the Algerian national military football team has everything it needs to prepare for the forthcoming national and international competitions under the very best conditions.

Since winning the 2015 title in South Korea, the Algerian squad has a totally new (99%) lineup and is working intensively to prepare for the 2nd edition of the World Military Football Cup to be held in Muscat (Oman) from 13 to 29 January 2017.
