RENNES - For this third competition day, it’s under a gloomy, windy weather that Marville stadium in Saint-Malo and Cesson-Sévigné Stadium hosted two capital games for the semi-final qualifications: South Korea faced Germany in Saint-Malo while the Netherlands played against Cameroon.
In the Group A in Saint-Malo, France concluded the best way possible the round robin stage with another impressive win against valiant Canadians led by Shelby Lewis. For the third time in a row, France managed to score six goals in the same game (6-0) and, in the same time, consolidated their first place in the Group A, much to the satisfaction of the French coach Elisabeth Loisel.
The important Group B game opposed South Korea to Germany in Marville Stadium in Saint-Malo, with a place in the semifinals as reward.
The Koreans, who could count on the support of some compatriots living in France, conceded a goal after only 5 minutes in the game: the ball was handled by a Korean player inside the area and a penalty was given to Germany.
But the Koreans reacted quickly and after twelve minutes, the No. 10 Korean Kwon Hah Nui equalized. This was the beginning of a downward spiral Germany, which then conceded 4 new goals. Therefore, Korea produced a memorable victory as they crushed Germany 5-1 and will face the host country in the semi-final
In Group B, Brazil confirmed its first place and justified its favorite status by defeating a good US team. After having quickly conceded a goal, the American team scored two goals via Harley Pier and therefore took the lead (2-1). The Brazilians faced rough time but finally found the resources to come from behind and, in the end, Ferrera Juliana (BRA) gave the victory to her team (3-2).
In the last game of the Group A, the Netherlands and Cameroon competed for the final spot in the semifinals. And Cameroon could count on an Agnes-Marie Nkada in great shape. His three goals have indeed enabled Cameroon to hand a brilliant victory (4-1).
In the semifinals, Cameroon will face Brazil while France will play against Korea. Both games will take place on June 2 at the Marville Stadium in Saint-Malo!
