USTER (SUI) - The 37th WMC Judo started yesterday in Uster (SUI) with the technical meeting, the official weigh-in and the Opening Ceremony. From 8 to 11 December, 187 athletes from 27 countries will compete for the gold medal in the following categories: women -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg, -78kg, +78kg and men -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, -100kg, +100kg.
The Opening Ceremony took place on the Oerlikon Place in front of a large crowd under the tunes of the Swiss Air Force Fanfare. The Official CISM Representative Colonel Walter Van Velthoven, the CISM PCSC Lieutenant-Colonel G. F. Sijnhorst, the Head of the Organizing Committee Lieutenant- and Chief of Delegation of Switzerland to CISM Colonel Hess, the Head of the Swiss Army Sport Department Colonel R. Ahlmann, the President of the Judo Swiss Federation Daniel Kistler, the Chiefs of Mission of the participating countries, the former BoD Member Colonel Marginean, referee’s representative and representatives of the International Judo Federation attended the Opening Ceremony.
CISM OCR Colonel Van Velthoven and the Head of the OC Lieutenant-Colonel Hess took the floor to welcome the athletes and wished them good luck while Colonel Ahlmann officially declared the 37th WMC Judo Open.
Today, the first competitions will start with team event while the individual competitions will begin on Saturday.
