10th WMC Golf - Amsterdam (NED) - Update - Day 1, 2 & 3

 

 

AMSTERDAM (NED) – On Sunday August 28th, 12 countries gathered in Amsterdam for the 10th WMC Golf in Amsterdam: Bahrein, Brazil, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, Spain, Sri Lanka, USA and of course the Netherlands. 58 men and 10 women will compete during four days in the Houtrak Golf Club, located near the brand new functional accommodations of the Marine base. Composed of 18 holes, this golf course is a Par 72- Course with a lot of bunkers, water and huge fairways. The Lt-Col Ard Vermeulen A.F. (Ard) Vermeulen Chief of Delegation of the Netherlands to CISM, Major Arnold Hosé, Lt-Col Henk-Jan Wendrick, Mr. Rodger Failé, the judges’ director, Lt-Col Walter Borghino, the CISM OCR and Capt. Ansar Mahmood, CISM PCSC for Golf attended the technical meeting which took place on Sunday evening. On August 29, the players had the opportunity to train and discover the course in the morning. In the evening, the Opening Ceremony took place in the Houtrak Golf Club. Lt-Col Borghino, the CISM OCR, took the floor to welcome the participants and congratulate the organizers for their commitment. He also reminded the importance of the Dutch involvement in CISM. After the raising of the CISM Flag and the Dutch Flag, General Gijs Van Keulen, who will also play in this 10th WMC, declared the 10th WMC Open and wished good luck to all the athletes. He also insisted on the importance of the CISM Motto “Friendship Through Sport”.

 

 

 

Yesterday, August 30th, the first day of competition started at 8.00 a.m. for the women and 9.00 a.m. for the men. In the women’s competition, Myriam Nagl is considered as one of the favorite as she recently competed in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games while the US men’s team have high hopes on Kyle Westmoreland. Beside those two main competitions, a senior tournament is also organized for some team captains and members of the Technical Committee.

 

 

RESULTS OF THE DAY:

Myriam Nagl (BRA) confirmed her status of favorite and finished the first day with a total of 70 shots (-2 under the par). Clara Teixeira and Anyssia Herbaut (FRA) are sharing the second place with a total of 77. For those two girls, it will be very difficult to take the first place as Nagl seems to be very strong! Brazil is also leading the women’s team competition (total: 147) with a huge advantage on France (total: 163) while the US team is temporarily ranked third with a total of 167 shots.

In the men’s individual competition, Kyle Westmoreland didn’t assume his status of favorite and finished the day with a total score of 74 (+2). The German player Sebastian Kannler performed very well yesterday (total: 67 / - 5 under the par) and even took the lead with a two shots-advantage on Rodrigo Lee (BRA) and Leonard Bem (FRA) who both finished the course 1 with a total of 69. As the women in the team competition, the Brazilian players also took the lead of the team men’s competition with a total of 284 shots (-4). Pakistan took the second place with 291 (+3) while Germany is on the third step of the podium (292 / +4).

Finally, Nisar Hussain (72 / +0) from Pakistan is leading the senior’s individual competition. The two Canadian players Thomas Cameron and James Dickson are completing the podium with respectively 73 (+1) and 74 (+2).
